There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just across the border from next door Thailand, where gambling den gambling is not permitted. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a relatively tiny space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a prime destination, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal income acquired from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a couple of restrictions constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; although, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are supposedly necessary to pass, there are means around this, as is true of many border crossings.
The 1st Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat gambling den, highlights 150 one armed bandits and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of 150 slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 one armed bandits and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around resort and hotel complex that highlights numerous luxuries on top of the gambling hall, which contains 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slot machine games and 88 table games.
